Four Decades of Fairport Convention Exhibition Opening

Making an Exhibition of Myself

My exhibition of portrait photography from last years Fairport Convention music festival finally opened at Banbury Museum last week.

I say finally as it seems to have dominated my life for the last month or so. I decided to print and frame all the pictures myself, as a result I have started to see the world as slightly under or slightly over exposed variations of magenta or cyan colour casts. It was all worth it in the end as the pictures and exhibition look brilliant.

As mentioned in previous posts the photographs illustrate 30 years of Fairport Convention’s Cropredy Festival through portraits of 30 fans wearing t-shirts from all 30 years of the festival. Adding to the pictures we have managed to get original artwork from designer Mick Toole who (apart from a few years in the mid 90’s) has designed all of the t-shirts, programmes, album sleeves and posters.

At the launch Ric Sanders and Chris Leslie from Fairport kindly came along and provided some live music, while I found myself in the curious position of being on the wrong side of the camera at a photocall (that’s me looking uncomfortable posing with Fairport’s Ric and Chris) as well as having to give a radio interview.

The exhibition is on at Banbury Museum until 10th September and well worth a look if you are in the area.
