On the campaign trail with Mr Nice.

It’s just over a week now until the general election and it seems like a good time time for another delve into my archive.

Back in 1997 I was working for a national photo agency based in East Anglia and had the opportunity to cover an unusual bid for political power. ‘Mr Nice’ aka Howard Marks, notorious drug smuggler, author and wannabe politician, was standing for election in Norwich on the single issue of the legalization of cannabis.

I was commissioned by the Times to meet up with Howard Marks at his office and then accompany him on the campaign trail. Basically this involved a relaxed afternoon making a few phone calls followed by a Howard Marks style ‘political party’…a rave at a nearby scrap yard!
