Jimmy Hill

Invasion Of The Jimmy Hills.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of photographing the unveiling of a statue dedicated to football legend Jimmy Hill. The statue is situated at the front of the Ricoh Arena, home of Coventry City FC, the team that Jimmy managed in the sixties and was on the board of in the seventies and eighties.

It’s fair to say that he is seen as a bit of a legend around Coventry, hundreds of fans turned  up to see the unveiling and Jimmy repeatedly joined them in enthusiastic renditions of the Sky Blues song complete with an athletic leap into the air (he has just celebrated his eighty third birthday!)

What really impressed me was a large group of fans all wearing Jimmy Hill face masks, the invasion of the Jimmy Hills, imagine turning up to an event and being met with a sea of  faces..your own faces!

As you can see from the pictures below the sculptor, Nicholas Dimbleby, managed to capture perfectly Jimmy’s most recognisable feature….
