British Tomato Week 2015.

Did you know that it’s British Tomato Week this week (18th-24th May) ?

I was recently commissioned by a leading supermarket chain to photograph inside the greenhouses of one of the UK’s largest tomato producers.

Well I have a greenhouse and I grow tomatoes but I have never had to use a cherry picker to trim the tops of them or change into shorts, t shirt and flip flops just to enter the heat of the greenhouse but that is exactly what the army of green fingered workers have to do in their football field sized greenhouses in rural Worcestershire.

I definitely regretted wearing long trousers and a long sleeve shirt as I was elevated above the canopy of the tomato forest aboard my cherry picker, the temperature at the top directly under the vast glass ceiling was sweltering. It was worth it though to get some photographs showing the scale of the interior of the greenhouse..literally the only way to see the wood (of tomato plants) for the trees!

The visit produced a great set of images documenting the whole production process inside the greenhouses and the pictures were used to accompany press releases supporting British Tomato Week 2015.
