Birmingham Architectural Photography – Chamberlain Square

News from Birmingham based freelance photographer Simon Hadley

I spent a chilly evening last week photographing the Chamberlain Memorial and fountain in Birmingham city centre as the ‘ Paradise’ technical team tested out the lights and the fountain prior to the entire square opening up to the public.

Not a straightforward shoot, a team of volunteers had to move around on each floor of the building behind to trigger the motion sensitive lighting, the fountain worked for about 30 seconds at a time as the water pressure dropped and the beautiful early evening light slipped away into total darkness, a narrow window of opportunity for getting all of the essential elements, lights on in the buildings behind, the fountain working and the dark blue of the sky.
