Celebrating Shakespeare at Parliament
The latest news from Birmingham based freelance photographer Simon Hadley.
A selection of my pictures taken on last week’s trip to London with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust who were hosting an event in Parliament to celebrate William Shakespeare’s birthday.
The reception, supported by Shakespeare All party Parliamentary Group, was attended by over 100 MPs and special guests.
Guests were able to have a close look at 10 important objects from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust collection, including a WS signet ring and an early copy of his will in which Shakespeare left his ‘second best bed’ to his wife Anne (Agnes) Hathaway.
Shakespearean scholar and Chairman of the Trust’s Consultative Council Professor Sir Stanley Wells cut the birthday cake with former artistic director of the Royal Shakespeare Company Sir Gregory Doran, who also performed a Sonnet (while dramatically wielding the cake cutting knife!)
