Why I love being a Freelance Photographer…

What a Difference a Day Makes!

I am sure I have written before that one of the things I love about my job is the variety..no two days are alike..well this week has certainly had variety.

The biggest contrasts of the week took place over two back to back days of sweltering summer heat.

On Wednesday I was commissioned to document a huge new waste processing facility in Sandwell. I followed tons of commercial waste from when it entered the plant through a variety of processes until it had been reduced to all of its elemental components; plastic, wood, rubble, metal, paper (and other far less wholesome stuff) ready for recycling .

The job involved large amounts of heat, dust and dirt. Both me and the cameras had to go and have a deep clean afterwards.

In complete contrast on Thursday I took a very pleasant drive out to the fresh air and wide open spaces of rural Lincolnshire, where I was shooting a magazine feature on a farmer based near Boston.

The huge fields of crops and big skies of Lincolnshire are a highly photogenic combination and I got some great pictures.

Two very different jobs..both really interesting and both producing quality pictures..the biggest difference…I left one with a large sack of freshly uprooted Lincolnshire potatoes!
